last day of our Summertrip 2013! Letzter Tag von unserer Sommerreise 2013!

We drove to Atlantic Beach to pick up my pottery supplies. They, unfortunately, were out of Highwater Porcelain, but I got some nice speckled clay that I want to try out and some other little things that looked interesting. On our way back we stopped at a fish shack where I had oysters and Donnie had triggerfish. Boy of boy, the fish and seafood here are really fresh and delicious. Afterwards we took the ferry and hopped from island to island. The views were beautiful and the ride a truly fine ending to our trip this year.

Tomorrow we are going home which will take about 5 hours from here.
Thank you for staying with me on our trip. I love you all! Next year we'll be going to Europe and one of these days I would like to circle Florida; down the Gulf of Mexico, around Miami, and coming up on the Atlantic. This has truly become my State!

Wir fuhren nach Atlantic Beach und haben meinen Lehm und diverse andere Kleinigkeiten abgeholt. Auf unserer Rueckfahrt hielten wir an einem alten Fischrestaurant an, wo die Fischerleute ihre Ware abliefern. Ich hatte Austern und Don Triggerfisch. Beides war frisch und natuerlich wieder mal sehr gut. Danach nahmen wir die Faehre und sind von einer Insel auf die andere gefahren. Die Aussicht auf's Meer war herrlich bei diesem schoenen Wetter und dieser Ausflug war wirklich ein perfekter Abschluss von unserer Reise in diesem Jahr!

Morgen geht es heim, was ca. 5 Stunden Fahrt sein wird.

Danke, dass Ihr wieder mit mir gefahren seid. ich schaetze und vermisse Euch alle!
Im naechsten Jahr fliegen wir nach Europe zu einem Familientreffen und um Freunde zu besuchen.
Doch irgendwann haben wir vor, Florida zu umkreisen. Den Golf von Mexico entlang, durch Miama, und dann den Atlantik wieder hoch. Florida ist mir ans Herz gewachsen und die Straende am Golf von Mexico haben keine Konkurrenz!

St. Marys/Georgia-Florida

We are on the road again. Stopped in Florence SC yesterday with nothing to report other that we had rain and a stop without TV or WiFi. Didn't matter, at this point we are used being without TV. We worked quite a bit at Renee's and by the time we stopped we usually just sat down and talked or we were too tired to even watch TV. Actually, I can only talk about myself and must say that I did enjoy some children movies, such as Brave, with Travis. Matt and Don prepared a laundry room in the cellar, almost finished her pantry and did finish the powder room on the ground floor. Donnie will return to VA as soon as they have the wood for a round pan for the horses. The best part was to see our family again.

Today we arrived in St. Mary's in Georgia-Florida. It's right on the border of Florida. We'll go out for dinner tonight (of course, add to the damage that's done to my body already!) and tomorrow we'll visit Fernandina Beach and go to the pottery place to get my supplies. Should be fun! It's about 90 degrees F right now and I don't know what the humidity level is. It's definitely high enough to make us sweat with little effort.

 

Wir sind wieder unterwegs. Stopped in Florence SC gestern Abend, wo es regnete und wir keinen Anschluss fuer TV oder WiFi hatten. Machte aber nichts, wir sind mittlerweile daran gewoehnt ohne TV auszukommen. 

Renee hat jetzt ihre Waschkueche im Keller, kann endlich ihre Speisekammer fuer den richtigen Zweck benutzen und die Gaestetoilette im Erdgeschoss hat einen neuen Boden und ist neu gestrichen worden. Sieht schoen aus. Und sobald sie das Holz fuer die "round pan" fuer die Pferde haben wird Donnie damit helfen. Und ich habe meinen kleinen Travis genossen, auch wenn wir nicht sehr viel Zeit miteinander verbringen konnten wie frueher.

Heute kamen wir in St. Marys in Georgia-Florida an. Es liegt direkt an der Grenze von Florida und ist nahe am Atlantischen Ozean. Waren schon im Schwimmbad und morgen werden wir Fernandina Beach besuchen und Lehm fuer meine Toepferei einkaufen. Sollte Spaß bringen! Es ist ca. 90 Grad F im Augenblick und ich weiß nicht, was die Luftfeuchtigkeit ist. Es ist auf jeden Fall hoch genug, um uns mit wenig Aufwand ins Schwitzen zu bringen. Ja, wir sind wieder daheim!

Blog interruption for about 10 days! Blogpause fuer ca. 10 Tage!

Will be leaving for Spotsylvania tomorrow morning!
Just wanted to let you know that we'll be at Renee's for a while (approx. 10 days). Haven't planned the route back to Florida yet, but will do that also while in Virginia. The blog will continue as soon as we leave Spotsylvania. Thank you for staying with me thus far!

Morgen geht es weiter nach Spotsylvania, Virginia!
Wir werden fuer eine Zeit (nehme an um die 10 Tage) bei Renee sein  Die Heimreise von Virginia nach Florida ist noch nicht geplant. Werde ich machen waehrenddem wir bei Renee sind und werde dann weiter berichten. Danke fuer Eure Gesellschaft! Bis bald!

Shepherdstown, WV

We drove to Shepherdstown which is a beautiful old University town. You won't believe it, but I found another outstanding yarn store and, of course, bought more yarn. I intend to knit and felt a knitting basket for myself and a berry hat for someone, don't know for whom yet. Whoever it is going to be.... you might look like a blueberry wearing this hat!

For lunch we went to the Bavarian Inn. Donnie had a sausage sampler and a pork roast and I had the pate and Sauerbraten. Everything was good except for the dumpling. They consider a dumpling a mashed potato ball that looks like a dumpling. Shame on them! Otherwise the meal was delicious and far more than either of us needed.

Wir fuhren nach Shepherdstown. Was fuer eine suesse kleine Universitaetsstadt! Und Ihr glaubt es kaum, ich habe wieder einen herrlichen Wollladen entdeckt. Natuerlich musste ich wieder mehr Wolle einkaufen und werde eine Beerenmuetze stricken. Ich weiss noch nicht fuer wen, doch wer immer diese Kappe bekommt, wird wie eine Blaubeere herumlaufen duerfen (?).

Zu Mittag waren wir im Bavarian Inn. Donnie hatte eine Probierplatte mit verschiedenen Wuerstchen und dann den Schweinebraten. Ich hatte Pate und danach Sauerbraten. Alles war sehr gut, mit Ausnahme des Knoedels. Als Knoedel wurde ein Ball von Kartoffelstampf angeboten, der keinesfalls wie ein Knoedel schmeckte. Dennoch war es ein Erlebnis und wir wurden ueber Mittag nach Bayern versetzt. Heute Abend gibt es nur einen Salat!

Formerly this was the opera house. Today it is being used as a music hall. Beautiful building, isn't it?!Dies war frueher das Opernhaus und wird heute als Musikhalle benutzt. Schoenes Gebaeude, nicht wahr?!

 

This is the local library, not someone who wouldn't sell their home to make room for a road. The cars go around it.
Dies ist die Bibliothek. Dachte erst, dass jemand nicht sein Haus verkaufen wollte und die Strasse um ihn herumgebaut wurde, aber nein, man hat das alte Haus mit Absicht stehen lassen.

Harpers Ferry, WV

It's still hot!

Today we went to explore the little town and were thrilled with the old buildings that are kept in beautiful shape. The time of the war between North and South seems to have stood still. Groups of children are learning history one on one and the restaurants remember of old times. I am glad we stopped here. We enjoy the beautiful scenery, the small stores, and the friendly people.

And our camping site is also very nice with the largest laundry room and swimming pool I have seen yet.  And Otto has a large fenced in area and can at times run around freely which he always enjoys. We like it here!

 

Von den Pocono zu den Appalachian Bergen und es ist weiterhin heiss!

Haben heute das Staedtchen besucht und waren begeistert von den alten Gebaeuden, die gut erhalten werden. Ist eine historische Gegend, in der die Zeit vom Buergerkrieg zwischen Nord und Sued irgendwie erhalten wurde. Schul und Vereinsgruppen lernen Geschichte und die Restaurants versetzen einen in die Vergangenheit. Ich bin froh, dass wir hier halt gemacht haben und wir geniessen die huebsche Umgebung, die kleinen Laeden und die freundlichen Leute.

Unser Campingplatz ist auch sehr angenehm. Wir haben den groessten Waschraum und das groesste Schwimmbad, die ich bisher gesehen habe. Und Otto hat eine grosse eingezaeunte Gegend, in der er zwischendurch frei herumlaufen kann. Wir geniessen unsere Zeit hier!

Art Shack, Baby - Harpers Ferry, WV

This store was awesome!!!! The owner gives classes in how to recycle EVERYTHING into Art! She wore earrings that were made out of old credit card and that is only one of the things she has. Just amazing place and an amazing person and what an incredible idea! Loved, loved this place!

Dieser Laden war eine Ueberraschung fuer Don und mich! Die nette Dame auf dem Bild unterrichtet (wer immer kommt) in wie man alte Sachen, die normalerweise weggeworfen werden, in Kunst umwandeln kann. Sie trug Ohrringe aus alten Kreditkarten und gab uns eine Tour von all den Sachen, die man wieder nuetzlich machen kann. Wir waren begeistert von ihr und ihren Ideen! Einfach herrlich!
